Art has the power to stir up strong emotions. It can make you laugh or cry. It can hit you in the gut. Artistic activism can change someone’s mind by focusing on their heart.
Here are just a few of the FTV projects that evoke feelings in order to change behavior:
- When starting a project, articulate what you want your audience to think, do, and feel. Let that guide decisions about how to carry out the work.
- Identify something that moved you – what made it so compelling? Try borrowing the music, the language, the colors, or a plot line.
- Brainstorm: what could you do to make your audience laugh, cry, or cringe? What might make them radiate with pride, shiver with fear, or smile with joy?
